Penang UMNO chief Datuk Musa Sheikh Fadzir has been appointed as the new Keretapi Tanah Melayu Bhd (KTMB) non-executive chairman effective today. In welcoming Musa, the KTMB board said his appointment would succeed Datuk Dr Rameli Musa, who has ended his service on February 1, 2021. Chief executive officer Mohd Rani Hisham Samsudin said KTMB expressed the most profound appreciation to the former chairman Rameli for his significant contribution to advancing KTMB. “We are very pleased to welcome Musa as chairman to the board. With his vast knowledge and experience, this appointment is timely to spearhead the transformation of KTMB, particularly the digitalisation and automation agenda of rail transport services in line with Industrial Revolution 4.0. “We hope his leadership will bring KTMB to a higher level as an operator of rail transport services superior in the region,” he said in a statement today. KTMB said Musa’s vast experience in the corporate sector would be a huge advantage for the rail operator in pursuing its transformation plan to improve the quality of rail transport services, especially in the post-recovery phase after bracing a challenging Covid-19 pandemic. Currently, Musa is the executive chairman of Aseania Group of Companies. He plays an important leading role in growth and business expansion within the hospitality and real estate industry. He is also the non-executive chairman of JKP Sdn Bhd – an implementing agency to the Penang Bumiputera Development Council. Musa had previously held various leadership positions in the government agencies such as the board member of Lembaga Tabung Angkatan Tentera (LTAT) and the council member of Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA).
