KUALA LUMPUR: Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) will reduce its ETS and KTM Intercity services until May 17 following an increase in Covid-19 cases.

KTMB chief operating officer Mohd Zain Mat Taha said ETS would reduce its frequency from the present 12 trips to just eight.

“Each route will have two services. The routes are Gemas-Padang Besar, KL Sentral-Ipoh and KL Sentral-Butterworth.

“The services for the KL Sentral-Butterworth route are business class coaches, ” he said yesterday.

Only four Ekspres Selatan services at the Gemas-Johor Baru Sentral sector will be operating daily, compared to six services previously.

“The Timuran Shuttle at the Kuala Lipis-Tumpat sector remains unchanged with 10 services.

“Ekspres Rakyat Timuran will also operate as usual with two services from Thursday until Sunday.”

Mohd Zain said the KTM Intercity service would operate with 16 services, which started yesterday, compared to 18 services at present.

“Passengers who are allowed to travel interstate can enjoy a RM10 discount by using the ‘CUTIKERETAPI’ promo code until June this year through online purchases.

“For passengers who travel between Tuesday and Thursday during the Ramadan month, they can also enjoy a 25% discount by using the ‘KTMRAMADHAN’ promo code, ” he said.

Mohd Zain reminded all passengers to adhere to the standard operating procedure when boarding the trains.
